Believing For Awakening | 14 June 2026

Pastor Stuart Bell speaks about “believing for awakening”, a move of God that not only renews the church but also impacts wider society. Drawing on examples from church history, he explains the difference between renewal, revival, and awakening. While renewal refreshes believers and revival brings many people to faith, awakening occurs when God’s work extends beyond church walls and transforms communities and nations.

Stuart shares a framework for understanding how awakening begins, highlighting three key stages. The first is personal renewal. Every move of God starts in individual hearts as people rediscover their passion for Jesus, renew their commitment to God’s Word, and seek the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

He also acknowledges that life can leave people weary, discouraged, or spiritually drained. Sharing from Isaiah 40, he encourages us with the promise that God gives strength to the weak and renews those who place their hope in Him. Just as eagles soar above storms, God lifts His people above life’s challenges through His power and grace.

The second stage is relational renewal. Stuart emphasises the importance of healthy relationships within the church. Christians are called to love one another, forgive one another, and focus on what unites rather than divides them.

Next comes missional renewal. The church is called not only to enjoy God’s presence but also to share His love with others. Stuart challenges us to remain focused on the Great Commission, helping people find faith, grow as disciples, and experience the transforming power of Jesus.

He then discusses structural renewal, explaining that when God brings growth, churches must be willing to adapt. Using examples from the early church in Acts, he shows how new challenges often require new ways of serving people while remaining faithful to God’s purpose.

Finally, Stuart speaks about cultural renewal, the point where God’s work extends beyond church walls and begins influencing society. Drawing on examples from the Welsh Revival and the Wesleyan movement, he describes how genuine spiritual awakening can impact communities, reduce social problems, and bring positive change to every area of life.

He concludes with a hopeful challenge, if God could use a small group of believers to change the world, He can still do the same today through ordinary people who are fully devoted to Him.
