In this message, Pastor David explores James 1 and asks: What is the loudest voice in your life?
Fear, shame, pressure, temptation, past experiences can all become loud. But just because a voice is strong or repeated doesn’t mean it is true. The voice we listen to will influence how we live.
The book of James reminds us that trials can strengthen faith, but they can make us vulnerable to temptation. When life is difficult, we may question whether God is good. Yet God does not tempt us. He is loving, and His character never changes.
Pastor David encourages us to test voices. What is this voice saying? Does it agree with Scripture and God’s character? Where will it lead if we follow it? Instead of trying to silence lies, we can answer them with the truth about who God is.
He calls us to receive God’s Word and put it into practice. We should try to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Scripture is like a mirror, showing us what is happening in our hearts. When it reveals bitterness, pride, dishonesty or a lack of compassion, we are invited to respond and change.
Our words matter too. Pastor David encourages us to pause before speaking, posting or sending a message and ask: Is it true? Is it mine to say? Can I say it in love? When we get our words wrong, we should apologise quickly.
Ultimately, the voice we need to listen to is Jesus. He offers forgiveness, mercy, new life and the Holy Spirit. Following Him doesn’t mean life will never hurt; it means trusting that pain will not have the final say.
The challenge is to notice which voice is loudest when pressured and choose to let God’s Word shape our everyday lives faithfully.
