Pastor David brings a message on the story of Lazarus’ resurrection from the Gospel of John, sharing themes of faith, devotion, and God’s timing. He highlights Mary, who was so moved by her encounter with Jesus that she anointed him with expensive perfume, symbolising her deep love and worship. David draws a connection to Christian worship, calling on us to reflect His presence through our lives.
He then moves into the story of Lazarus’ illness, where Mary and Martha call upon Jesus, hoping He will heal their brother. Despite their plea, Jesus delays His visit, which initially confuses the disciples and the sisters. David explains that while the sisters may have expected Jesus to perform a miracle like He did with the Roman centurion, God does not always act in the same way twice.
Jesus finally arrives after Lazarus has been dead for four days, a period significant in Jewish tradition as it implies that death is certain. When Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, David notes that this act glorifies God and strengthens the faith of those present.
David encourages us to trust in God’s timing, even when it seems delayed. He acknowledges that life’s challenges can cause pain and sorrow, but he urges Christians to respond with hope and faith, knowing that God is always working for our good, even if we can’t immediately see it. He reminds us that God hears our prayers, and we should pray confidently and aloud, knowing that our prayers can inspire and encourage others. Just as Jesus spoke life into Lazarus, David encourages us to let God speak into the “voids” in our lives, bringing new life, freedom from shame, and a deeper sense of purpose.
