A King Who Met The Sovereign | 26 October 2025

In this message David Williams shares from Daniel 4, focusing on the powerful story of King Nebuchadnezzar, a proud ruler who learns the hard way that God alone is in control.

David begins by expressing his joy at being back home with the congregation and reminds everyone how blessed they are to worship in a place where God’s presence moves so clearly. Turning to Scripture, he explains that Daniel 4 is one of his favourite passages because it captures a dramatic transformation, from arrogance to humility, from self-glory to God’s glory.

He walks through the story: Nebuchadnezzar, a mighty Babylonian king known for his brilliance and power, was also a violent and arrogant man who thought he owed everything to himself. After a warning dream that Daniel interprets, urging the king to repent and show mercy, Nebuchadnezzar ignores the message. A year later, he proudly surveys his kingdom, declaring that he built it all “by my own power.” Instantly, God humbles him, stripping him of his sanity and throne, and he lives like a wild animal until he finally lifts his eyes to heaven and acknowledges God’s rule.

He highlights that this story isn’t just ancient history, it’s a mirror for our lives. God still warns us, still calls us to repentance, and still humbles pride. Like Nebuchadnezzar, we must remember that every gift, achievement, and breath comes from God.

He closes by urging us to guard against the “my way” mindset, the belief that we are self-made. Instead, we’re invited to live God’s way: humbly, gratefully, and dependent on Him, the One whose kingdom truly lasts forever..
