He reads verses 1–10 from James 4, which explore the roots of conflict within us, our selfish desires, envy, and pride. These inner battles lead to external fights and arguments. Pastor Josh points out that many of our frustrations in life come not from external circumstances, but from unmet desires and the belief that we’re owed certain things—like respect, success, or comfort.
He contrasts two mindsets: one of entitlement and one of gratitude. When we expect life to give us everything we want, we become bitter and resentful. But when we approach life with thankfulness for what we do have, we cultivate joy and peace.
He also tackles misconceptions about prayer. Some people don’t ask God for what they need, assuming He’ll act regardless. Others ask selfishly, with the wrong motives. Pastor Josh explains that prayer is powerful, but its purpose is to align our hearts with God’s will—not to manipulate Him into giving us what we want.
He reminds us that God is a good Father who gives wisely. Sometimes He says no, not out of cruelty, but because what we want might actually harm us. Pastor Josh encourages us to shift our focus from what we lack to what we’ve been freely given, trust God’s intentions, and deal with the sin within before blaming others. It’s a call to self-examination, humility, and a deeper reliance on God’s wisdom and grace.
