Lost In The House | 03 May 2026

Jack Footer reflects on Jesus’ parables about the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son, focusing especially on the story of the lost coin. He explains that all three parables are about something or someone becoming separated, not just physically lost, but spiritually disconnected. While the sheep wandered away and the son rebelled, the coin never left the house. It was lost while still inside. Jack uses this to explore the idea that people can appear close to God, involved in church life and Christian activity, yet still feel distant from Him internally.

Throughout the message, Jack reminds us that every person has value, purpose, and worth in God’s eyes. Just as the woman searched carefully for the missing coin because it mattered to her, God seeks people who feel lost or disconnected. He challenges the idea of self-righteousness, warning against becoming like the Pharisees , outwardly religious but inwardly far from God. He also uses Judas as an example of someone who was physically close to Jesus but spiritually distant because he trusted his own plans more than God’s.

Jack encourages us to examine our faith honestly, stay connected to Jesus rather than simply focusing on religious activity, and remember that God cares deeply about the condition of our hearts, not just our outward actions. Jack explains that Jesus’ words on the cross , “it is finished” mean the debt of sin has already been fully paid. Because of that, we no longer need to strive endlessly to prove ourselves.

He closes with three practical encouragements: preach the gospel to yourself daily, stay humble, and keep Jesus at the centre of everything.
